Welcome to Wickerfish

Watercolour Courses

The Wickerfish art studio is situated at the hugely popular ‘Cedar Farm Galleries’ in Mawdesley, Lancashire. It is a purpose built studio in which Ruth displays her artwork and runs successful art courses for both adults and children. Please check out her gallery (click on link at top of page)

This is a family run business where Ruth’s husband Andrew and eldest daughter Rachel pitch in with teaching, framing and providing copious amounts of tea and delicious freshly ground coffee, which can be bought from the ‘Roastery’ on site. It was in fact Ruth’s youngest daughter Bethany who came up with the studio name after a visit to a children’s art course held here at Cedar Farm. She made a wicker fish sculpture, which can be seen hanging in the studio.

After a family conversation about the idea of starting an art studio, it was Beth’s idea that if it became a reality, it should be called the Wickerfish ……… and now it has become a reality…… and so it naturally had to be called…… 'Wickerfish'

The Wickerfish website will be kept up to date with news on the latest art courses, dates and prices. Why not become a member of the Wickerfish art forum to share your art tips and experiences?

Please feel free to email Ruth with any enquiries related to this site.

Weekly Watercolour Courses

Ruth runs four, 2 hour watercolour lessons a week. The courses run for 12 weeks but there is an option of following a 6 week course.

The watercolour course suits both the student who needs structure and the student who likes some freedom in their painting.

Ruth demonstrates every 2 to 3 weeks. Most students join in with these step - by - step demonstrations but they are not compulsory. In between the demonstration weeks, there are ‘free weeks’ where the student can practice a previously taught watercolour technique or ‘Do their own thing.’
